Health Advice for Tanzania
Vaccinations
Current health advice for Tanzania and recommendations indicate that there are no mandatory required vaccines for Tanzania. Recommended vaccinations include Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Typhoid Fever, Yellow Fever. Vaccinations to be considered (depending on where you intend to visit in Tanzania, where you plan to stay, and what you intend to do) include Polio, Hepatitis B, Rabies, Meningococcal Meningitis, Cholera and Tuberculosis (TB).
Malaria Risk
Malaria is a risk in Tanzania predominantly due to ‘P. falciparum’ which exists throughout the year in the whole country below 1800 metres. Resistance to chloroquine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine have been reported. Recommended prevention includes protection against mosquito bites (cover-up at night with long sleeves and trousers, use of repellent, sprays, coils and sleeping under mosquito nets) plus use of mefloquine, doxycycline or atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone) tablets.
